PURPOSE:

The Active Station Query List provides you the capability to request a list of current active stations identifying their locations and general capabilities.

An "active" station has an unexpired license to perform smog checks.

Stations which are registered to serve only fleet vehicles and Referee stations do not appear on this list.

Below are two expanded sections:

Attention Test-Only Stations: In reference to ET Blast #20377 , stations can view the instructions to obtain a referral list at the link below:

Referral List Instructions

HOW TO REQUEST A STATION LIST:

Using the selection criteria on the query form, specify the stations you want listed.  Then click on the "Submit" button.  See below for a description of each of the criteria from which you may select.

You may specify a single criterion, or any combination of criteria.

The name, address, location and telephone information for each station comes from the station's license document.  If it incorrect, the station must submit a correction to BAR using the standard form.

CRITERIA:

Station with names beginning:

You may enter the initial letters of a station name.  For example, the letters JONES will result in a list of all stations which have a name beginning with "JONES".

Stations in County:

You may list stations from all counties in California, or you may select a single County.  For example, if you Select "Alameda" then only stations with addresses in Alameda county will be listed.

Cities with names beginning:

You may enter the initial letters of a city name. For example, the letters BERK will result in a list of all stations which have a name beginning with "BERK".

Postal ZIP Code Area (3-5 digits)

You may enter 3,4 or 5 digits of a Postal ZIP code area within California.  If you enter 3 or 4 digits then all stations residing in any zip code areas beginning with those digits will be included in the list.  If you enter 5 digits then only stations residing in that ZIP code area will be included in the list.  For example, 956 will result in all stations in any of the zip codes 95600 through 95699.  However, 95628 will result in listing only stations that reside in that ZIP code area.

BAR Field Office Area:

You may select one of the BAR Field Office Areas.  Each field office has oversight of the stations within its assigned region.  This option provides you with a geographic area larger than most counties and cities.  For example, if you selected "Bakersfield" the resulting list would include stations in most of the Southern central valley of California.  More on Field Offices

Program Area:

You may select stations according to the program area in which they reside.  Program areas are: Basic, Enhanced, Partial Enhanced, and Change-of-Ownership.  Each area has different smog test requirements. Stations in those areas are equipped to test vehicles from their respective areas.

Show only stations that have performed one or more ASM tests in the last week. (Applies only to stations in Basic areas)

Check this box if you live in an Enhanced program area but work in a Basic program area and wish to find a station near your work that is equipped to test you vehicle.

Show only stations that may certify gross polluter vehicles.

Check this box if your vehicle has tested as a gross polluter and you need to find a station that can test it again and issue a certificate.

Maximum number of station to display:

Rarely does a consumer wish to wade though a very long list of stations.  If you get too many stations you may wish to refine your selection criteria. Regardless, you may limit the selected list of stations to no more than 1 up to 1000.

Sort the Resulting List in Random order

Check this box to have the list sorted in random order.  Unchecked, the list will be sorted by zip code and within zip-code by station name.

Station Types:

You may limit the list of stations to only those of certain types.  The query form identifies the types from which you may select.  You may select any combination of station types.  If you select none, then all station types will be selected.  More on Station Types.

HOW TO READ THE STATION LIST:

The station list is presented in three distinct parts:

1. The criteria summary :

This appears above the column headings and summarizes the criteria you selected for identifying stations to be included in the list.

2. The list of stations:

This follows the criteria summary and includes a row of column headings followed by a row for each selected station.

The columns of the listing include:

Type:

The Station Type for a station.  More on Station Types.

Can Certify GPs:

A "Y" in this column indicates that the station may certify a gross polluter vehicle.

Station Name:

The name of the station as recorded on the license document.

* Station Address /
Phone Number

The street address for the station above the telephone number for the station.  The address is highlighted.

The asterisk (*) in the column heading refers to the footnote at the bottom of the listing -- indicating that clicking on the address will result in display of a map showing the location of the station.  Note: the map is courtesy of the map service from Yahoo.com !.  Some addresses do not resolve into displayable locations on maps.  Sometimes, the mapping process with interpolate (guess) to location on the map based on known addresses on the street.

City/County:

The city name above the county name.

ZIP:

The 5-digit zip code for the area where the station resides.

Field Office : Program Area:

The two-letter field office code (generally, a phonetic abbreviation for the field office name) followed by the 1-letter program area codes.  More on Field Offices.   More on Program Areas

Available Test Units:

The number of licensed smog test machines at the station.

Available BAR97 Test Units:

The number of smog test machines at the station capable of testing vehicles from Enhanced program areas.

3. The report footing:

Below the list of stations is the count of the number of stations listed.  If this number is less than the "Maximum number of station to display:" then it is the actual number of stations that meet the criteria you selected.  If the number is equal to the "Maximum number of station to display:" then there may have been more stations which met the criteria you selected and that were not listed.

Next, below the station count, is the effective date and time of the data listed with the count of the total number of active stations in the database.
