Step 1: What type of license do I need?

1) Advanced

I will be inspecting, repairing, and certifying emissions control systems on vehicles subject to the Smog Check Program at Smog Check stations in all parts of California.

2) Basic

I will be inspecting, repairing, and certifying emissions control systems on vehicles subject to the Smog Check Program at Smog Check stations in areas of the state designated as Basic or Change of Ownership Smog Check Program areas.

3) Intern

I will be performing repairs or adjustments to the emission control system on vehicles subject to the Smog Check Program under the supervision of a licensed smog technician.
